Mbwana Ally Samatta ‘Samagoal’ heading for English Premier League

Mbwana Ally Samatta ‘Samagoal’ is heading for English Premier League after becoming top scorer and winning trophies in Belgium.

Mbwana Samatta is exchanging KRC Genk of Belgium for Aston Villa, the current number 18 from the English Premier League. The 27-year-old Tanzanian attacker signs a contract for 4.5 years.

Samatta transferred to KRC Genk in 2016 from the Congolese TP Mazembe. In Belgium he continued to show his scoring abilities. At KRC Genk, he scored 76 goals and twenty assists in 191 matches he played. Last season, the Tanzanian, with 23 goals in the competition,  was the league top scorer and had a particularly large share in the Genk's  Belgium title.

Villa manager Dean Smith praised Samatta whom he described as a player with a great attitude and goal scoring record. "I am very pleased that we have succeeded in getting Mbwana," responded coach Dean Smith. "He has been a top athlete with scoring records all his career. I look forward to working with him."

Samatta will now be the first ever Tanzanian to taste the Premier League, a competition that is very popular in Tanzania. "This means a lot to me", said Samatta. "In Tanzania, everyone who loves football is always watching the Premier League. Soon they will see a compatriot at Aston Villa, great. I look forward to it, it will be a big step in my career. I myself have been following the Premier League, as well as matches from Aston Villa. I particularly enjoyed Gabriel Agbonlahor (with 86 goals he is club top scorer of all time at Aston Villa). "
